Flamenco Vivo welcomes Emilio Ochando to the Center for Flamenco Arts for a 5-day workshop!
Emilio Ochando, born in Valencia in 1984, began studying dance at age 9, and by the next year he was seen performing in various dance festivals in Valencia and in classical dance and flamenco competitions. In 1995, he performed with the National Ballet of Spain at the Teatro Principal in “Medea,” sharing the stage with Lola Greco and Luis Ortega. At age 12 Emilio appeared as soloist on national TV, winning the Valencia Performing Arts Award. He joined Compañía Domingo Ortega in 2001 and received his degree from the Madrid’s Royal Conservatory of Dance “Mariemma” in 2006. Emilio has been a member of Nuevo Ballet Español, Ballet Theatre of Rafael Aguilar, and Compañía Aida Gomez. In 2011, he won the second prize as soloist in the XX Certamen de Coreografía de Danza Española y Flamenco, and in 2013, he formed his own company. In 2015, he was awarded a one-year contract with Universal Studios in Japan. Emilio won the first prize for Choreography in the 2016 Certamen de Coreografía de Danza Española y Flamenco and received Flamenco Vivo’s prize, which brought him to New York to choreograph for the Company.
