His work explores traditional music from around the world\, with particular expertise in flamenco\, Iberian folk music\, and Latin-American traditions. \nMaureen Choi\nKorean-American violinist Maureen Choi is a rare artist bringing the violin into the heart of flamenco\, fusing its duende with classical elegance and jazz improvisation. Based in Spain\, she leads the acclaimed Maureen Choi Quartet\, forging a distinctive “Spanish Chamber Jazz” sound critics have called “revolutionary.” Prize-winning since age five\, Choi trained at Michigan State University and Berklee College of Music. That same year\, the company premiered its first show\, “DeFlamencas\,” at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba\, which went on to win the Specialized Critics Award at the Festival de Jerez in 2012. In 2022\, she co-choreographed FRONTERAS for Flamenco Vivo’s company which received rave reviews in NYC and toured nationally for 3 years. The work was hailed for its “bursts of brilliance and uncommon invention” and “uncommonly deft balancing of the individual and the group in flamenco” by Brian Seibert in the New York Times.
