SUMMARY:Kahului\, HIMarch 12
DESCRIPTION:Tour 2025: Quinto Elemento\nMaui Arts & Cultural Center |  Kahului\, HI\nWednesday\, March 12 @ 7:30 PM\nFlamenco Vivo presents QUINTO ELEMENTO (Fifth Element)\, a new evening-length work choreographed by Patricia Guerrero with an original score by Francis Gomez. The production explores the fifth element of the earth: ether\, the essence that makes up the space around us. Hailed as a master of tradition who dares to deconstruct the art form\, Guerrero draws on her deep knowledge of traditional flamenco but pushes past the restriction of its rules. In doing so\, she seeks to extract the essence of flamenco itself\, its invisible fifth element\, and make it tangible to audiences. \n\nTICKETS

SUMMARY:The Dance Historian is In November 20
DESCRIPTION:The Dance Historian is In:\nCarlota Santana and K. Meira Goldberg on Spanish Dance to Flamenco 1894-2024\nNovember 20 @ 1:00 PM  |  NYPL for the Performing Arts (NYC)\nSpanish dancer Carmen Dauset “Carmencita” arrived in New York in 1889 and quickly became a sensation in New York society. She was painted by both William Merritt Chase and John Singer Sargeant\, and in 1894\, she became the first woman and the first dancer to be filmed by Thomas Edison. By the early decades of the 20th century great Spanish and flamenco dancers were performing in the U.S.\, and some\, such as the Cansinos and Aurora Arriaza\, settled in the U.S. as teachers and performers. For this Dance Historian Is In\, Carlota Santana and K. Meira Goldberg present images and video footage surveying the early years of Spanish dance through the present day. \n  \nFor more than 10 years\, The Dance Historian Is In at the Library for the Performing Arts has highlighted a diverse range of dancers and choreographers across history. This series began when archivist and historian David Vaughan started volunteering at the Jerome Robbins Dance Division. Vaughan began a monthly program showing his favorite dance films from the Division’s extensive collection\, through which he unearthed many treasures\, and helped acquire even more. Vaughan continued the series until the end of his life. Today\, we honor his memory and work by inviting dance historians from all over the world each month to carry on the tradition of highlighting dance history through the Dance Division’s moving image collection. \n\n\n\nRSVP to attend in person for virtually via Zoom!\n\n\n\n\nNYC FLAMENCO PASS: $15/month\n\nNYC Flamenco Pass members help support events like these\, receive priority seating\, and enjoy access to monthly experiences. SUMMARY:Tour 2023 - Tablao Flamenco
DESCRIPTION:Tour 2023: Tablao Flamenco\nFlamenco Vivo Carlota Santana showcases the pride and power of flamenco in Tablao Flamenco\, featuring an international cast of dancers and musicians. Named after the wooden floor used by a bailaor/a (dancer)\, tablaos are intimate venues that harness the highly improvisational and virtuosic nature of flamenco. Originally known as cafés cantantes (which became popular during the midnineteenth century in Spain)\, tablaos are still among the most popular places to see flamenco today. Tablao performances offer audiences a rare opportunity to feel the artists’ emotions up close and experience the dynamic interplay between the dancers\, guitarist and singer come alive. The energy is explosive as artists are inspired by one another and the freedom to take risks and embrace spontaneity. \n\nTICKETS: Starting at $45
