Bebe de la tradición y se lanza al abismo de lo nunca visto con espectáculos en los que late un flamenco de opuestos: oscuro y luminoso\, femenino y masculino\, inquietante y bello. De ella han escrito que es “una de las grandes figuras contemporáneas del flamenco” (Paris Art)\, “una presencia mercurial y experimentadora intrépida” (The New Yorker)\, poseedora de una “energía feroz encerrada en una técnica sofisticada” (The Guardian).  \n  \nEn 2018 recibe el Premio Nacional de Danza en la modalidad de Interpretación por “su capacidad de aunar las distintas disciplinas de la danza española\, actualizándolas en un lenguaje interpretativo con sello propio” y por “su versatilidad escénica y su valiosa capacidad de transmisión”. \n  \nGran renovadora del flamenco\, muchos otros galardones reconocen su dominio técnico\, la armonía y el preciosismo de su trabajo. Entre los más recientes\, el Premio MAX a la Mejor Coreografía por La Materia (2024)\, Premio Godot (Crítica de Madrid) a la mejor bailarina (2024)\, el Premio MAX a la mejor Intérprete de Danza por Un cuerpo infinito (2020)\, el Premio Extraordinario de Teatro ACE Awards 2016 (Asociación de Cronistas de Espectáculos de Nueva York); el Premio MAX a la Mejor Bailarina Principal por Pisadas (2015) o el galardón de El Ojo Crítico de RNE (2014). \n  \nSu trabajo más reciente es La Materia\, estrenado en 2023 en el Festival Temporada Alta de Girona\, segunda parte de la trilogía inspirada por las guitarras del célebre luthier Antonio de Torres. Junto a Daniel Doña y Marco Flores sube a escena Recital (2009)\, Complot (2008) y Chanta la Muí (2007). Con Manuel Liñán y Marco Flores firma En clave (2006) y En sus 13 (2005). Con Manuel Liñán crea Cámara Negra en 2005.  \n  \nHa colaborado además con Irene Escolar\, Silvia Abascal\, Lucia Lacarra\, Ygor Yebra\, José Carlos Martínez y Boris Charmatz. Célebres son sus trabajos con la directora de escena Carlota Ferrer o\, más recientemente\, con el coreógrafo y bailarín Daniel Abreu\, su compañero en La Materia.  \n  \nEn 2023 crea la coreografía para Goyescas/El retablo de Maese Pedro\, dirigida por Francisco López en la Ópera de Oviedo y el Teatro Cervantes de Málaga.  En 2022 su participación en el espectáculo infantil Rebelión de Marea Danza le vale una nominación a los Premios Max a la Mejor Coreografía. Es requerida por el Ballet Nacional de España en 2017 como coreógrafa invitada para el espectáculo Electra\, de Antonio Ruz. Como artista invitada ha trabajado junto a artistas de la talla de Belén Maya\, Blanca Del Rey\, Miguel Poveda\, Rocío Molina\, Teresa Nieto\, Marco Flores\, Manuel Liñán\, Daniel Doña\, Juan Carlos Lérida\, Chevi Muraday\, Ángel Rojas\, Carlos Rodríguez o Miguel Ángel Berna\, entre otros. \n

His career has taken him across the world\, collaborating with flamenco greats including Niña Pastori\, Alejandro Sanz\, Carmen Linares\, and Gerardo Nuñez\, with whom he appeared in Carlos Saura’s film “Iberia.” \nJosé Manuel is also a founding member of Asociación Cultural Sirimusa\, which uses flamenco as a tool for social intervention with at-risk youth and marginalized communities.
