On November 16th, 2010, flamenco was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. One year later, Flamenco Day (Día Internacional del Flamenco) was created to celebrate this important moment in flamenco’s history.
Every year, Spain puts out a video celebrating this momentous day––check out the newest one!

Now through April 2022, Teatro Español is hosting a photographic exhibition featuring 70 images highlighting the 60 year career of Isabel Steva Hernández, better known as Colita (Barcelona, 1940). Colita became famous by capturing intimate moments of flamenco icons such as Carmen Amaya, Paco de Lucía, and Vicente Escudero.

One single style of flamenco can contain up to hundreds of different versions based on place of origin and/or which musician created them. In our Palos Class with Juan Parrilla, we learned which palo has over 400 variants: FANDANGOS!
Given the immense amount of fandangos variants that exist, it can be overwhelming to begin to approach learning them––this is why Juan suggests taking a listen to just a few and seeing which ones you take a liking to.
