A featured soloist in our upcoming production at The Joyce, María Bermudez is an internationally renowned dancer who has helped shape the flamenco communities of Los Angeles & Santa Barbara, CA as well as Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

She’s introduced the greatest artists from Jerez to countless audiences through her traditional company Sonidos Gitanos, touring stages like the Hollywood Bowl, John Anon Ford Amphitheater, Lincoln Center Outdoors NY, Festival de Beaucaire, and Palacio Das Artes, Brazil. She also heads the jazz flamenco project Chicana Gypsy. Recently her work was honored by the city of Jerez, officially named the “Embajadora del Flamenco de Jerez” (Ambassador of Jerez Flamenco).

After a successful show as part of the legendary “Fiesta de la Bulería” in Jerez in 2019, María realized an unprecedented collaboration between the Jerez Festival and famed Walt Disney Concert Hall to present the “Fiesta de la Bulería on Tour” as Artistic Director and performer.

Maria first appeared with Flamenco Vivo in 1988, making it one of the first companies she ever toured with. “It was the best experience for a dancer getting a start… I am honored and grateful to be part of this celebration!”
