Former Flamenco Vivo company dancer and now singer-songwriter Leilah Broukhim has released her first single from her new EP, “The Curve.” Our dear Leilah says “The song has a magical soulful groove and a dreamy psychedelic vibe that I am very proud of.”

Flamenco dancer Yinka Esi Graves held a talk at the recent Bienal de Flamenco in Sevilla, exploring both connection and contradiction within the art form.
Cited as an example was her experience of dancing the guajira: “something very satisfying for my dancer’s body, but whose lyrics––almost always about mulatto women seen as sexual objects––make me doubt how to position myself before it.”
ANSWER:
John Singer Sargent! An avid traveler, this famed American portrait painter was fond of Spain and spent much time there during his life. Thus, the subjects of much of his work were Spanish, including this mesmerizing painting of a Gitana dancing flamenco. This portrait is known for conveying the movement of dance in a still image and for capturing the communal essence of the art form.
