Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana returns to The Joyce with the New York City premiere of QUINTO ELEMENTO (Fifth Element), an evening-length work by acclaimed choreographer Patricia Guerrero, winner of Spain’s National Dance Award, with an original score by Francis Gómez performed live. Featuring Flamenco Vivo’s world-renowned international cast of dancers and musicians, the work explores the elusive fifth element of the earth—ether, the invisible essence that connects all things. Hailed by The New Yorker as “a master of tradition who dares to deconstruct the art form,” Guerrero ventures beyond flamenco’s aesthetic bounds, embracing chaos and fragmentation to reveal its essence—its invisible fifth element—and make it tangible to audiences.

Mexican flamenco artist and Flamenco Vivo Guest Artistic Director Karen Lugo brings her artistry to SOHO Live for an evening of flamenco unlike anything you’ve seen. Award-winning across stages from Barcelona to Madrid, Lugo is known for work that is deeply rooted in tradition and fiercely inventive.

No esTABLAO is a performance concept that abandons the traditional tablao format to create space for live, unrehearsed encounters. With flamenco dance as its foundation, Lugo is joined by guest musicians from inside and outside the flamenco world for an improvised dialogue that unfolds entirely in real time. Nothing is agreed upon beforehand. The result is a collision of movement, sound, and spontaneity that pushes flamenco into unexpected territory.

This is flamenco unbound.

Join us for an intimate evening with José Manuel León, one of flamenco’s most sought-after guitarists and a passionate advocate for flamenco’s transformative power.

Born in Algeciras, Cádiz, José Manuel began playing guitar at age 13 under his father’s guidance and was performing professionally by 16. His career has taken him across the world, collaborating with flamenco greats including Niña Pastori, Alejandro Sanz, Carmen Linares, and Gerardo Nuñez, with whom he appeared in Carlos Saura’s film “Iberia.”

José Manuel is also a founding member of Asociación Cultural Sirimusa, which uses flamenco as a tool for social intervention with at-risk youth and marginalized communities. During his time in New York performing with renowned dancer Olga Pericet, he’ll share insights into his artistic practice and social mission.

Part performance, part conversation, this evening offers a rare opportunity to experience the artistry and heart of a musician who believes flamenco can change lives.
