Alberto Sellés of Cádiz returns to NYC for a week of performances and classes with Flamenco Vivo! A highly awarded dancer, Sellés claimed his first flamenco prize at 6 years old and hasn’t stopped since, touring Spain’s most famed tablaos, dancing with Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, and debuting his work at the acclaimed Bienal de Sevilla.
Catch Sellés’ incredible artistry at our upcoming LPR performance, which recreates the sizzling energy of flamenco tablaos, where instinct and improvisation abound. Not only can you see Sellés perform, you can also join him for three inspiring days of dance classes in our studios!
Both intermediate/advanced and advanced beginner levels will be offered with a combined focus on technique and choreography. Classes held in Spanish.
This year’s Flamenco Festival will fill up the city with an astounding 15 performances, featuring some of Spain’s biggest stars––Olga Pericet and Manuel Liñán, to name just a few dancers.
Musical highlights include a concert featuring Antonia Jiménez, one of the world’s most important female flamenco guitarists, a performance by Rafael Riqueni, another current master of guitar, and leading singer of the new generation Israel Fernández’s NY debut.
The festival goes beyond performances––a scholarly symposium co-organized by Meira Goldberg will investigate Paco de Lucía’s musical antecedents and honor his cultural legacy, particularly focusing on the Americas’ strong influence on his music and his lasting legacy on ours.

Kick off Women’s History Month with the world premiere of renowned Kathak dance artist Rachna Nivas’ new work, ‘Reclaiming the Divine Feminine,’ at New York Live Arts in Chelsea. Through classical Indian Kathak dance, live music, and special lighting and prop design, Nivas embodies the wildness of Kali, Goddess of time and death who represents the bold paradoxes of feminine wholeness.

Answer: Drag Race!
Believe it or not, flamenco dancing was the featured challenge in a recent episode of Drag Race, popular drag competition reality show. Famous Spanish actress and personality Charo was invited to lead the contestants in this match, and dancers were brought in to partner with the drag queens. The tourism board even collaborated with the show to sponsor a winner’s trip to Spain. While it’s certainly not the purest of flamenco, we love to see people find the fun in the art form!
