Ensemble Español is presenting a four-day symposium at Northeastern Illinois University on the Black and Brown roots of Spanish dance and music. Presentations will be in person and virtual, featuring Concha Buika, La Lupi, Dr. Brenda Dixon-Gottschild, Meira K. Goldberg, and Briseyda Zárate, among others.
Brasilian powerhouses of modern music Rodrigo Amarante + Alice Caymmi share the stage at LPR in a special double-header presented by Brasil SummerFest. Amarante, perhaps most known for the theme tune on Narcos, brings cinematic tension with every song. Caymmi doubles down on the dramatics with her rich textures.
Hint: Thanks to machinery, much less time than a mantón.
