A featured artist in our upcoming production at The Joyce, José Maldonado of Barcelona grew up studying flamenco and Spanish dance at a conservatory and moved to Madrid at 18 to further his studies. José has performed for a multitude of companies varying in style from traditional to the most contemporary. He received first prize for Best Solo Choreography (2013) and Group Choreography (2015) at the Madrid Certamen de Danza Española y Flamenco––the latter which granted him a commissioned work for Flamenco Vivo!

José’s choreography for our show FRONTERAS last year was lauded as “an uncommonly deft balancing of the individual and the group in flamenco, and solid entertainment to boot” (NYT.) You don’t want to miss this year’s!
