Welcome to Evolución: a multi-tiered framework of support for flamenco artists at all stages of their careers. Developing, performing, and professional artists committed to ongoing evolution can join a growing network of fellow artists and engage in truly customized training.

Evolución features four adaptive pathways that allow for individualized study and provide opportunities for artists to discover their own trajectory with unparalleled support built in each step of the way.

Flamenco Vivo Evolución will be offering FREE open classes for participants interested in joining any Evolución program for the upcoming year (2023-2024).

Developing Artists is a year-long program focused on the fundamentals of flamenco practice outside the typical technique or choreography class. From a study of flamenco music and history to dance structure and one-on-one mentorship, participants develop the skills necessary to take the next step in their flamenco journey.

Cuadro for Performing Artists is a year-long program for those who are ready to work in-depth with live music and to understand all aspects of working in a Cuadro. Accompanying the live sessions with musicians, participants meet to discuss any and all flamenco topics.

Flamenco Certamen USA provides a spotlight for emerging talent while fostering the continued development and expansion of the flamenco art form. Participants showcase their work in performance and compete to win scholarships to study in Spain, among other prizes.

Consortium for Professional Artists is for professionals committed to furthering their careers within the flamenco art form. Participants develop the administrative aspects of their work while creating a sustainable artistic practice, building a network of support, and integrating into the greater dance ecosystem.

Evolución RED: a flamenco-focused, interactive online network where participants can communicate freely and share information and ideas. This forum offers extensive resources and connectivity to a greater network of community artists and events.
Free or discounted classes, workshops, events, and opportunities provided by Flamenco Vivo and community partners (both in person and virtual).
Ongoing guidance and support: All of the Evolución pathways work together harmoniously to create truly individualized training. Participants may choose to engage with any one of the programs over multiple years, criteria permitting. The Evolución faculty, mentors, and staff encourage participants every step of the way toward their goals by identifying areas of need and providing support in reaching those goals.

Program Cycle: July 2024 – June 2025

An application and video submission is required to be accepted into Evolución.
The Evolución faculty, composed of established flamenco professionals, will carefully evaluate each applicant. Applicants will indicate a preferred program track, however the faculty may suggest a different study trajectory based on the materials submitted.
Flamenco Certamen applicants will indicate in which category (Estudio or Tablao) they wish to compete, however the Pre-Selection Jury will make the final category determination based on the requested materials and video submission.
All applicants must be 18 years of age at the time of the Submission Deadline.
Once selected, participants may choose to revisit any one of the programs over multiple years, criteria permitting.
There is a limited pool of scholarship funds available to support participant fees for all programs. To request a scholarship to subsidize the cost of program participation, please complete the application as well as the “Request a Scholarship” section. All applicants are eligible to apply for financial subsidies, and scholarships will be awarded on a sliding scale.

Applications for the 2024 Flamenco Certamen USA are now open. We will announce more details about the other programs in Summer 2024.
