New program helps nurture flamenco artists at all levels.
Are you a flamenco artist? We’re excited to announce the unification of three of our popular programs under one roof (or, in this case, hive). Our Artist Development series supports rising artists with the tools necessary to prepare for a professional flamenco practice. The Flamenco Certamen showcases artists in performance and offers the opportunity for advanced study with our partners in Spain. Flamenco Consorcio provides professional artists next-level development opportunities in arts management, network building, and more.
We’re closing out Women’s History Month by highlighting these extraordinary talents for your enjoyment:
CANTAORAS LEGENDARIAS
Carmen Linares
Carmen Linares is a very important singer in flamenco. She released an album in 1996 called Antología: La Mujer en el Cante that is a tribute to all the great female singers. It’s filled with flamenco classics and would appeal to aficionados and flamencos alike.
While growing up, she was the only woman with a guitar in her hands – and for many years, the only woman performing on guitar in tablaos. Read this fascinating interview with this barrier-breaking woman.
