FLAMENCO NEWS
We’re excited to announce our fan-favorite annual performances at LPR––tickets now on sale! Join us for Tablao Flamenco, an intimate flamenco experience modeled after Spain’s famed tablaos, the café-style venues that showcase flamenco at its most raw and authentic. Our international cast of artists––including Premio Desplante winner Yoel Vargas––will create by instinct and improvisation, showcase unbelievable technique, and create living art through the interplay between dancers, musicians, and audience. Experience this special Andalucían evening right here in NYC!
Each year, Dance Magazine publishes its highly anticipated “25 to Watch” list naming the rising dancers they predict are poised for a breakout. 2025’s list features none other than Company dancer Yoel Vargas! Bridgit Lujan for Dance Magazine writes “The realm of flamenco choreography is tremendously difficult to break into at a young age. Yoel Vargas is at least a decade ahead of the curve… with the perfect cocktail of technique, emotive transmission, and creative sensibility.” Enhorabuena!
You can witness Yoel’s magnificent artistry live at LPR for 2 nights, April 11 & 12!
Sol “La Argentinita,” teaching artist and collaborator of Flamenco Vivo, offers a unique travel experience in Granada, ideal for those who want to learn flamenco in its place of origin, with bilingual teachers, in an environment full of magic and culture! The trip includes dance classes, cultural excursions, Spanish immersion lessons, inspiring performances, and charming accommodations.
Catch Positive Vibration Nation, a rock guaguancó opera created by Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Sol Ruiz, at HERE Arts Center. Blending live performance with integrated technology, the new work fuses sound, visual art, costume, and music with Caribbean influences to investigate contemporary issues, explore Miami’s cultural singularity, and convey a positive message to audiences.
Answer: Sevilla!
And believe it or not––while it may not make sense to us bundled up for winter at the moment––January is Spain’s biggest time of year for flamenco fashion! Each January, Sevilla hosts the two largest flamenco fashion events of the year which set the tone and trends in advance of the Feria de Abril, where thousands of fair-goers from around the country and the world don their best costumes. SIMOF, Sevilla’s oldest fashion event, celebrates its 40th year, while We Love Flamenco, a more recent leader of flamenco catwalks, hits its 13th in 2025.
Stay tuned into La Voz to hear about the trends post-fashion-shows.
