Founder and Artistic Director Carlota Santana is proud to announce that she has named Emilio Ochando Associate Artistic Director of Flamenco Vivo!
An integral member of our Company for the past 7 years, Emilio first crossed paths with us in 2017 when he was awarded the Flamenco Vivo Prize at the CERTAMEN DE COREOGRAFÍA DE DANZA ESPAÑOLA Y FLAMENCO. Since then, Emilio’s artistry has illuminated stages across the US and his choreography has pushed forward our mission of developing repertory that honors flamenco’s traditions while contributing to the art form’s evolution.

Enhorabuena Emilio and thank you for helping us usher in the next 40 years of Flamenco Vivo!
José Porcel, a flamenco virtuoso with a career spanning over 20 years, will grace the stage alongside award-winning flamenco guitarist Alvaro Martinete, renowned flamenco singer Roberto Lorente, and talented dancer Sheba Bergman in an evening dedicated to raising funds for the Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, hosted by the Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation. For dancers interested in learning directly from José, join him at Flamenco Vivo Studios the evening beforehand for workshops! For class registration, please contact: sheba.bergman@gmail.com.
You may remember from back in March that the earliest recordings known to exist of Paco de Lucía and his brother Pepe de Lucía performing as youth were recovered from a tape recorder and announced for public release as an album. Well, after much meticulous restoration of the 60-year-old recordings, the full album is out!
For the first time, we have access to the “missing link that represents the transition from classical flamenco to modern flamenco.” Take some time to listen to this precious piece of the art form’s history.
Answer: Sui!
Just 7 years old, Sui of Yokohama, Japan has already graced one of Spain’s greatest tablaos––and by invitation no less! The young dancer, who inherited her love of the art form from her mother, went viral online after videos of her dancing flamenco circulated. Eventually they reached Madrid’s Director of Arts Education who invited her to Spain to experience the art form in its birthplace. Check out her little solo at the historic tablao above!
